I didn't really have a script when I did these interviews which led to some awkward pauses, but it's also what led to the awesome input that I would never have thought of asking for if I didn't let them speak their mind freely. To be honest, I'm not the best interviewer and I'm still in disbelief that I was able to just approach complete strangers without coming off as a complete creep.
Essentially, the biggest difference between those who were in my boundary and those who weren't were there accessibility to a car. It turns out that I have a pretty wide market for my idea which can be both a good and bad thing. Below I have a table that illustrates the main differences further:
Inside the boundary Outside the boundary
People who can drive a car People who can't drive
They need parking They don't need parking
Overcrowding of parking They don't drive so they don't have to worry about parking
In conclusion, I found a new appreciation for feedback from strangers. As intimidating as it was at first, I realized that these people had a lot to say and were able to see things from a perspective that I or my like-minded peers may have missed.
Here's the playlist containing all 5 of my interviews:
Hey Kalvin! After reading through and listening to your testing hypothesis part 2 I found your opportunity to be one that I can relate to very much and would personally find a need for. I find it extremely difficult to find parking on campus in which I waste my time looking for a spot that makes me late for class or not even able to go to class once I have found a spot. Your app would make finding a parking spot way for convenient.
ReplyDeleteKalvin,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you when you said it was hard not to pause during some of your interviews, I struggled with the same thing. I think you did a fantastic job though! I get anxiety because of parking half the time so It would be AMAZING to have a resource like that app! Great job!
Hey Kalvin,
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great idea that many students would agree that this is a great idea! Although I don't personally have a car, I know plenty of students that would benefit from this application. I understand the awkwardness of recording people, and it can sometimes be difficult without a script, but I think it also makes your conversation more natural. Great job!

Hi Kalvin,
ReplyDeleteThis would be an awesome app to have. I know getting the app running and working would take time but like others have stated it would be so beneficial to so many people. Help people waste less time searching for a spot and cause less people to run late because of this situation. I know in Jacksonville there are so many places that are difficult to find parking such as the Town Center which is always packed with people. Great IDEA!
Kalvin,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on being one of the only two people on our team to complete this assignment! I also felt really awkward conducting the first round of interviews and there were a lot of pauses. I'm glad you had a positive experience though and I really liked your app idea.
Hi, Kalvin. While I was listening and reading your testing the opportunity hypothesis part 2, I really interested in your idea, new application. Finding parking lot is always very difficult when I go to shopping mall or at school. Your new application will be very useful and helpful to me and many drivers. I really like your idea. Great job!!
ReplyDeleteI live in a fairly small city so parking here isn't too bad. However, when we travel somewhere or go to an event it is one of the more frustrating parts of the event. I'd like to see an app like this linked with parking garages, football stadiums, and college campuses. Would you app have a one time download charge or would you just charge per use?
ReplyDeleteHey Kalvin,
ReplyDeleteI personally believe you have a great idea that could greatly benefit every student by saving them time and gas by already knowing open parking spots. I know the struggle of driving through parking lots over and over just waiting for an open spot and now I have decided to only walk to my classes because parking spots aren't reliable.
Hey Kalvin,
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I want to thank you and congratulate you on stepping out of your comfort zone. This class is pushing us and forcing alot of us to grow. I am the same and I get nervous approaching people, but after the introduction it's not scary anymore.
Not alot of people went through with this assignment, me being one of them.
After reading your post and listening to your interviews I have come up with a few suggestions. I feel your post should have had more detail of your idea. Next time provide us with some more insight and your personal take aways from your interviews. My second suggestion is to bypass the small talk. I understand you're trying to get a sense of who the person you're talking is. But I recommend not getting too much into their situation and focus on your opportunity. Lastly, I was a little distracted by some of the background noise so maybe look for quieter locations or move around so the noise of the environment does not get in the way.
Good job on this assignment and if you take my suggestions into consideration your next interviews will be even better. You have a good idea. I have noticed quite a few people discussing the issues of parking. So it is definitely a popular opportunity people want solved.
